Our verdict
Ledger Nano X: Best all-round hardware wallet in Canada
For a Canadian with more than CA$500 in crypto, the Nano X is a straightforward buy. The mobile connectivity, coin support, and ecosystem maturity justify the CA$100 premium over cheaper options. If you're strictly Bitcoin-only and want air-gapped security, the Coldcard Q is a better fit.
What's great
- Supports 5,500+ coins
- Bluetooth to iOS + Android
- Ledger Live is the best wallet app
- Secure element chip (CC EAL5+)
- Made by an established company (since 2014)
What to know
- Not open-source firmware (unlike Trezor)
- 2020 customer data breach (no funds lost, but data leaked)
- Some coins require third-party apps
- CA$219 is pricier than Trezor Safe 3
Who the Nano X is for
- Canadians with CA$500+ of crypto they're holding long-term
- People who want to move crypto to and from their phone (Bluetooth)
- Multi-coin holders (BTC, ETH, SOL, altcoins, tokens)
- Anyone who values a large ecosystem of integrations (MetaMask, Rabby, WalletConnect)
Setup takes 15 minutes
- Order from Ledger.com — never a reseller.
- Check the tamper-evident seal on delivery. Open on a clean surface, alone.
- Charge fully. Install Ledger Live from Ledger's official site.
- Set a PIN on the device (4–8 digits).
- The device generates 24 recovery words. Write them down on paper or a metal backup. Never digitize.
- Verify the recovery phrase by re-entering when the device asks.
- Install the Bitcoin app in Ledger Live.
- Send a small test amount from your exchange. Confirm the on-device address matches. Then move your bulk holdings.
Where to buy in Canada (safely)
Buy only from Ledger.com. Ledger ships to all Canadian provinces via UPS/DHL with tracking and signature required for pricier orders. Delivery is typically 3–7 business days.
Do not buy from Amazon, eBay, Kijiji, Facebook Marketplace, or any reseller. Multiple confirmed cases exist of pre-configured devices being sold with the seed phrase already known to the seller. Ledger's warranty is only valid for direct purchases.
